My story
I wanted to give you the rundown on why I started my metal detecting business. It's a way for me to turn my passion for finding lost treasures into a profitable venture that also helps people and connects me with the community.
My Journey into Metal Detecting
I started metal detecting back in 2000, discovering it to be an incredibly relaxing and rewarding hobby. Like many enthusiasts, I began by searching for coins in local parks and playgrounds, which was both fun and exciting. However, my passion truly ignited after uncovering some fascinating items at an old homesite. These discoveries sparked my curiosity and led me to dig deeper—figuratively and literally—into the history behind these artifacts. Over time, metal detecting has not only connected me to the past but also provided countless hours of enjoyment and learning. It’s a hobby that keeps surprising me, and I’m grateful to have started this journey over two decades ago.
Since then, I’ve started two thriving metal detecting clubs, driven by my in-depth knowledge of artifacts and a deep appreciation for history. My passion lies in uncovering and preserving pieces of the past, with a particular fondness for Civil War artifacts and the rich tapestry of early American history. These experiences have allowed me to connect with others who share a similar interest, fostering a community that values discovery, learning, and the stories behind the objects that shaped our nation’s journey. History is not just something I study—it's something I bring to life with every find.
For years, I’ve had a knack for tracking down lost items and reuniting people with what they thought was gone forever. So, I wanted to share my knowledge and experience in finding lost items and connecting loved ones with their misplaced belongings. Whether it’s a cherished keepsake, an important document, or even a missing set of keys, I’ve learned practical strategies and developed a strong intuition in this area. From retracing steps and leveraging the power of community to using modern tools like online lost-and-found platforms, every method matters when it comes to recovering what’s lost. My goal is to not only help others find their missing items but also reduce the stress and worry that come with such situations. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the joy on someone’s face when they’re reunited with something they thought they’d never see again.
In summery, this says it all up for me.......
- The passion and the thrill of the hunt. For a long time, metal detecting has been an exciting hobby for me, fueled by the feeling of uncovering hidden objects and history buried right beneath our feet. I wanted to take that sense of adventure and discovery and build something with it.
- A solid side income. While it's possible to make money selling valuable relics, relying on big finds is inconsistent. I realized I could offer services that provide a more steady income stream. This turns a fun pastime into a reliable source of revenue.
- Offering a valuable service to the community. Many people lose valuable and sentimental items—like a wedding ring at the beach or a keepsake in the yard—and are desperate to get them back. My business offers a way to help people recover these treasures, providing a service that is both valuable and emotionally rewarding.
- Specialized industrial and forensic services. The business can also expand beyond just finding lost items. There's a need for metal detectors in industries like construction to locate buried pipes and wires before excavation begins. My skills can also be useful in forensic work, assisting police departments in finding metallic evidence at a crime scene.
- Connecting with a bigger purpose. This business is a way to specialize and carve out a niche in a field I'm genuinely passionate about. It allows me to combine my skills with a meaningful purpose—be it reuniting someone with a lost heirloom or assisting in historical preservation.
- Turning a passion into profit: Like many detectorists, I've always loved the thrill of finding things and uncovering a bit of history. I realized that instead of just being a weekend hobby, I could use my skills to earn a steady income. This is a chance to do something I love every day.
- A unique service for the community: The idea to start offering my services really clicked when I saw how much it costs people to lose something meaningful. Whether it's a lost wedding ring at the beach or car keys in a park, I can provide a service that is affordable and has a huge emotional payoff for the client.
- Solving a problem for local businesses: I've found that there's also a need for my skills beyond just personal items. Some construction companies need to locate underground pipes or wires before they start digging, and I can save them a lot of time and money.
- Building a business around what I know: Instead of starting from scratch in a new industry, I’m leveraging years of experience and expertise. This approach lets me offer a quality service right from the start.
- Variety of opportunities: There are many ways to make this work, from lost item recovery and working with construction firms to selling valuable finds like old coins or historical artifacts. It keeps the work exciting and full of different challenges.
- I'm really excited about this new venture. It combines my love for history and treasure hunting with a real business model that helps people.
